Navigating a world of peer relationships, uncertainty about the future, pressure to excel in all areas of life, substance use and body image are just a few of the challenges teens face today. Teens are in a constant state of change where they are trying to figure out who they are and how and where they fit into the world. Therapy can help children and adolescents create a better understanding of themselves and provide the tools needed to improve emotional regulation and become more resilient.
Adolescence can also be a challenge for parents. One of the most important things we can do as parents is to listen; not reacting but really listening without judgment to what our children have to say. When we accept and value our children’s emotions, they feel heard and more confident. If relating to your teenager has become a challenge, parent coaching may help. I provide parent coaching to help with issues such as back talk, power struggles, sibling rivalry, not listening, morning routines and more.
I provide therapy for children ages 11 and up using a mix of play therapy, art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and EMDR. I offer a safe space for teens to explore their feelings and talk about the challenges in their life. I help them develop a deeper understanding of the behaviors that are not working and improve their ability to cope with life’s stressors. Some of the issues I work with include:
